Rare Chance to Hear Young Musicians from Pennsylvania
A Pennsylvania High School Musical Band, Orchestra and Choir will be performing in Henley for the first time at the Christ Church Centre on Saturday 1 April.
Boyertown Area Senior High are coming to the UK to also visit London for 5 days where they will be giving a masterclass in St John’s Smith Square, attending a West End Musical, an LSO concert at the Barbican and visiting many of the London sights.
This concert will be an inspiration to both young and not-so-young and include a showcase of enticing music – ranging from Big Band, show tunes and popular classics. Elisabeth Cawood who has organised the tour said, “There are 80 performers in total – a band, an orchestra and a choir – and we’d like to give them a proper Henley welcome by having a good turn out from the community. They were due to travel in April 2020, but obviously this had to be cancelled and students missed out on the opportunity of performing in the UK. For many of these students travelling now, this will be their first experience outside the USA.”
The concert is FREE and starts at 6.30pm. There will be a retiring collection in aid of Henley Music School venue fund to develop Trinity Hall on Harpsden Road into a Community Hub and a permanent base for HMS with practice rooms, recording studio, and flexible performance space. As well as having a pediatric counsellor on hand, after school clubs, family support, youth club, refugee meeting rooms, a safe place for the whole community with music at its heart. The hall has fallen into disrepair, and needs over £1,000,000 investment and renovation to bring it sustainably into use, and forward for the next 100 years.
