River Clean Up After Flooding

A volunteer group made up of Henley Mermaids, Friday Floaters, Greener Henley, residents and friends of Warrior on Waste, Lynne Lambourne came together on Saturday morning to do a river clean-up after the recent flooding.

Despite the river still lapping over the towpath in some places, the volunteers wearing wellies scoured the flooded areas which included Mill and Marsh Meadows to pick up rubbish which included plastic bottles, cans, food wrappers along with unusual finds of a golf ball, a crutch and a garden sprinkler!

Laura Reineke said, “We had a lovely turn out from some community spirited people.  We’ve picked up quite a lot of plastic and rubbish that has been washed up by the flood.  Thank you to all who came and we’ll do another one when it recedes completely.”

Lynne Lambourne added, “It was way better than I thought it was going to be.  A few years ago when I walked along here after it had flooded, there was loads of plastic bottles and everything.  I think Parks have been out this week and have been clearing up.  It was a pleasant surprise that it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.”
